#WWW Wednesday – 3/2/21

Hey everyone! This is one of my favourite weekly tags, so many people do it that it’s really fun. WWW Wednesday is hosted over at Taking On A World Of Words, check out their site 🙂 If you’ve had a go at this tag, feel free to link in your post in the comments. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to this week!

What I Finished Recently

I was lucky enough to get ARCs of both The Hazards Of Love and Delicates through Netgalley and they were both exceptional. Find my review of these graphic novels here.

Also, I finally read From Blood And Ash and… wow. Can confirm I’m in a bit of a reading slump after that! I should have a review up on Friday, so keep an eye out 🙂

What I’m Currently Reading

I didn’t have enough to say about The Cousins for a full post, but I’ll do a mini review here. A couple of years ago, I read One Of Us Is Lying and loved it so much. I’ve been following the author’s other books since and whilst I don’t think any of them were as great as her first, I was excited to hear about The Cousins!

It follows a group of cousins (shocker) who are contacted by their elusive grandmother who had cut off contact – and her massive fortune – from their parents 17 years ago. In typical YA mystery fashion, it was full of twists and (slightly unrealsitic) love triangles. Whilst it was an enjoyable read, I felt a little bit like there was too many characters and not enough action. My main point being that there were 4 main adults called Adam, Anders, Allison and Archer. Can you see why I got confused?

.I love Karen McManus’ writing style – even though I was a little let down with the plot twists in her other books (*cough* Two Can Keep A Secret *cough*). She’s brilliant at building tension and building up characters… and then annihalating who you thought the characters were. Her plots are incredibly solid. Also, I liked how things were revealed as you go along, not in this big Poirot-esque please-assemble-in-the-drawing-room right at the end. If you’re looking for a light but well built YA mystery, check this out!

What I Want To Read Next

I’M SO EXCITED TO READ THE NGIHT CIRCUS! I think last time I did a WWW Wednesday, I said the same thing about Crier’s War… and that didn’t end that well (find out why it is basically just sapphic Star Wars in my review here). But, I tried Erin Morgenstern’s other book last year and fell in love with her writing style, so I have high hopes! It had better be good. Or else (I’m reading too many 3 star books that I thought would be a 5 😦 ). You can check out my review of The Starless Sea here 🙂

Yes, I’m trying to win the award for the most amount of links to other reviews in one post. What’s your record?

Published by Hundreds&Thousands

I’m a teenager (and a Hufflepuff) from Manchester. I like oversized jumpers, music that isn't on the radio anymore and books. Pretty much any book I can get my hands on but my favourites are Young Adult, fantasy and science fiction. One day, I decided to share some of my opinions on some great - and not so great - books to people around the world. And here it is! I really enjoy it and I hope you do too. The aim is hundreds and thousands of book reviews (see what I did there?) but I’m not quite up to that. Yet.

  1. I’m currently reading The Cousins – it’s so good!! I agree with you about the parents’ names, I’m constantly flicking back to the family tree at the start of the book to check who’s who! 😂

    1. What a coincidence! Ugh YES that family tree saved me on multiple occasions (there was sometimes a big plot twist and I’d be like… who?). I loved the relationship between Milly and Jonah as it developed, hope you enjoy!!

    1. It’s brillianttttt – I honestly can’t praise it enough! I’m hoping I enjoy the night circus too lol – I have so high expectations that I don’t know if that will mean I enjoy it less? I don’t know if that makes sense or has ever happened to you lol, but I hope you get round to the starless sea 🙂

  2. From Blood and Ash left me in a reading slump too! I am so thankful that my friends recommended to have A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire in my possession because of said reading slump 😂 I am hoping to read The Night Circus this month!

      1. YES BOOK THREE IS!! (I’m very excited. Don’t know if you could tell.). I don’t know if it shows the quality of the writing if she can write three books in a year haha but I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the second one!!!

      1. A couple months ago, watched the movie, but fell asleep. Now, I want to read the book- took several years for my parents to convince me to read it.

The book might either be a Feb. read or not. I use Libby on my phone as a way to provide books for my kindle- it is a long wait to get it.

So now, trying to decide what to read if that happens- if I still need a book to read before Mockingbird

    1. Aw Im so glad to hear that! I don’t think they’re ever going to be as good as One Of Us Is Lying (I agree I was also a bit let down by two can keep a secret – what was that ending?!) but the characters are really interesting and it’s an overall good book. Hope you enjoy!

      1. Yeah i agree, she is great author with amazing storylines. I do think that she has so many characters within the book. It took me half a book to get used to all the names and who they were related to 😂
