To Peel Or Not To Peel?

Are you supposed to peel the stickers off your books? I’m so confused.

So, I don’t normally get books that would qualify for a waterstones special edition sticker but last week, I bought the got the limited edition version of How The King Of Elfhame Learned To Hate Stories 😎. Let me just say…. this might be something I need to do more often!

Anyway, I was showing off to my friend about the cover and he was disgusted that I’d peeled the ‘special edition’ sticker off.Which left me VERY CONFUSED.

So, are you supposed to peel stickers like that off? My life is a lie. I don’t want to keep price tag stickers or ones saying buy one get one half price but what about fancy edition stickers? One of my pet hates is when it looks like a deal sticker can be peeled off but then it’s ACTUALLY PRINTED ONTO THE BOOK. Very annoying 😦

This isn’t normally a problem I have to worry about haha but what do you think? Do you peel the stickers off your books? Or do I have to try and glue the limited edition edition sticker back on!

I’m a teenager (and a Hufflepuff) from Manchester. I like oversized jumpers, music that isn't on the radio anymore and books. Pretty much any book I can get my hands on but my favourites are Young Adult, fantasy and science fiction. One day, I decided to share some of my opinions on some great - and not so great - books to people around the world. And here it is! I really enjoy it and I hope you do too. The aim is hundreds and thousands of book reviews (see what I did there?) but I’m not quite up to that. Yet.

  1. Ugh I hate when I start peeling a sticker and then the cover comes off with it 😭😭 I dont know what it is with me and stickers, at this point I just leave them on

    1. Yeah I guess that is the easier solution! I hate it when I get second hand books with stickers on and when you try and take it off it’s been stuck on for so long half the cover goes too ugh (These are so reader problems 😂)

      1. Haha yeah 🙂 I get a lot of second hand books(they’re so cheap, and I love a bargain!😜😂) and I have learnt to just leave the stickers be

      2. Oh, that’s so cool 😍 I need to find a place like that near me; I have so many books I want to give away, and getting books in return would be so good

  2. Oh wow I think this is the first I’ve heard of someone *not* wanting to peel the stickers off! I get feeling neutral about peeling/not peeling but I wouldn’t have expected someone to be disgusted by it, hahaha.

Hmm I guess if it’s a book I plan to sell for its ‘limited edition’ nature, I would keep the sticker as ‘proof of status’ but definitely would take it off the actual cover. Personally I like to see the cover in its entire design and I often feel the store stickers look really tacky and distract from the cover, unless its a sticker that actually was designed to match the cover, like the ‘limited signed edition’ stickers for the Waterstones ‘Nick and Charlie’ novellas, for example!

This was such an unusual post topic, thanks for this!

    1. You’ve got some interesting points! Honestly, I don’t really have any books that I could sell as a *special* book… but I can see why you’d keep the sticker on as proof. I haven’t seen any stickers before that match the book but that’s such a great idea, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it!
